**About this Role**
We are looking for a technically adept Science Manager to lead the Search Science team at UberEats. Search is how many users find restaurants, retailers, dishes, and items, making this a critical role for our business growth.
The work is unique in a couple of ways:
- The global scale of UberEats means you and your team will be building solutions that have to generalize across the world, navigating diverse languages, selection conditions and user habits.
- The Search system also operates at the intersection of users and logistics. Unlike traditional media search, our systems need to account for real-time availability and feasibility constraints of our marketplace.
- The Science role at Uber also covers the entire spectrum of Data Science. You will build and support a team with diverse skills and take on interesting problems requiring advanced analytics, experimentation, casual inference, ML / RecSys system understanding, ground truth measurement.
- You will also be at the cutting edge helping us build out advanced Agentic Search capabilities that help customers find / discover products that fulfill their needs.
**What You'll Do**
- Lead the team in performing deep-dive analyses to generate actionable insights that influence strategy and execution direction.
- Design, develop, and own key metrics and dashboards for evaluating the quality of search results and agentic capabilities.
- Analyze the performance of the search system and underlying ML models to identify optimization opportunities.
- Design and execute A/B tests and other experimental designs to causally determine the impact of new features, algorithms, and system changes.
- Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineering, other Scientists and Design teams to translate business needs into technical roadmaps to deliver high-impact solutions.
- Recruit, mentor, and grow a team of talented Scientists.
- Communicate complex findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
## **Basic Qualifications**
- Ph.D., M.S. or Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields.
- Minimum 7 years of industry experience as a Scientist or equivalent (5+ years if holding a Ph.D. degree).
- Experience with exploratory data analysis, statistical analysis and testing, causal analysis and ML model development.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in managing a team of Applied / Data Scientists with Strong people leadership skills including growing and mentoring your team members.
- Experience with tools like SQL or R in a production environment.
- Bias to action and proven track record of getting things done.
- Proficiency using Python, pySpark at scale with large data sets.
- Experienced in partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to execute decisions.
- Experience in tech or marketplace industries.
## **Preferred Qualifications**
- PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or other quantitative fields.
- 2+ years of experience in managing a team of Applied / Data Scientists with strong people leadership skills including growing and mentoring your team members.
- Experience working with ranking & retrieval systems, e.g. Ads ranking, Home page ranking.
- Experienced in partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to execute decisions.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$212,000 per year - USD$235,500 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$212,000 per year - USD$235,500 per year.
