Overview

LaunchDarkly is hiring a Backend Engineer for their Metrics team to build and maintain backend features that support safer releases and clearer experimentation. You'll work with technologies like Java, Python, and Docker in a hybrid role based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a solid background in backend engineering, ideally with experience in building production systems that handle complex data flows. You understand the importance of maintaining high-quality code and have a knack for debugging issues that arise in distributed systems. Your experience with Java and Python allows you to contribute effectively to backend features, and you are comfortable working with REST APIs to connect various services. You are familiar with Docker and understand how to leverage containerization for efficient development and deployment processes.

You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working closely with data pipeline teams to ensure that events flow seamlessly through ingestion, storage, and querying. You are eager to learn from senior engineers and contribute to the development of internal APIs that enhance experimentation and release safety workflows. Your analytical mindset helps you spot potential issues early, and you are committed to delivering high-quality solutions that meet user needs.

Desirable

Experience with event-driven architectures or familiarity with AI workloads would be a plus, as you will be contributing to features that support both traditional software and emerging AI applications. You are open to learning new technologies and methodologies that can enhance your contributions to the team.

What you'll do

As a Backend Engineer on the Metrics team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining backend features that transform raw events into meaningful metrics. Your work will directly support safer software releases and clearer experimentation processes. You will collaborate with other engineers to develop internal APIs that connect customer events to experimentation workflows, ensuring that the platform remains robust and reliable.

You will also work closely with data pipeline teams to understand how events are ingested, stored, and queried. This collaboration will allow you to make targeted contributions that enhance the overall functionality of the Metrics services. Your role will involve integrating event-driven capabilities into various areas, including AI configurations, which will help teams test ideas and gather real signals effectively.

In this position, you will have the opportunity to grow as an engineer while contributing to infrastructure that modern teams depend on every day. You will be encouraged to share your insights and collaborate with your peers to continuously improve the platform's capabilities.

What we offer

LaunchDarkly provides a supportive environment where you can develop your skills and advance your career. You will have access to resources and mentorship from experienced engineers, allowing you to grow in your role. The company values innovation and encourages you to explore new ideas that can enhance the product and user experience.

We offer a hybrid work model, allowing you to balance your time between the office and remote work. This flexibility is designed to support your work-life balance while ensuring that you remain connected with your team. Join us at LaunchDarkly and be part of a mission-driven company that empowers teams to ship software safely and efficiently.
