SpaceX is hiring a Composite Lamination Technician to build rocket and spacecraft structures. You'll work with composite materials and precision layup techniques in Hawthorne, CA. This position requires at least 1 year of assembly experience or a trade school certificate.
You have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate and at least 1 year of assembly experience or a certificate from a trade school. You possess a keen attention to detail and understand the importance of precision in your work. Your experience includes working with composite materials, particularly in layup, bonding, or assembly processes. You are familiar with operating tools such as ply cutting machines and laser projectors, and you can read and interpret engineering drawings effectively. You are committed to safety and quality in all aspects of your work, ensuring that every assembly meets the highest standards.
As a Composite Lamination Technician, you will be responsible for laminating assemblies by determining the proper placement of composite materials into molds. You will prepare parts for bagging, which includes the placement of bleeders, thermocouples, probes, and vacuum connections. Your role will involve performing vacuum bag processing, bonding, and oven or autoclave curing to ensure the integrity of the structures you build. You will make basic layouts on parts or assemblies to establish reference points and check dimensions using calipers, micrometers, precision scales, and torque wrenches. Additionally, you will prepare surfaces using grit blast, hand abrade, and power abrasion techniques to ensure optimal bonding and finish.
