Google is seeking a Senior Serdes Electrical Validation Engineer to lead the post-silicon characterization and validation of high-speed multi-gigabit serial interfaces. You'll work with technologies like Python, NumPy, and Pandas, requiring 5+ years of experience in SERDES hardware design and validation.
You have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. With at least 5 years of experience in SERDES hardware design and validation, you possess a strong foundation in the principles of electrical engineering. A Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is preferred, showcasing your commitment to advancing your expertise in the field.
Your experience includes proficiency in Python, particularly with libraries such as NumPy and Pandas for data analysis and instrument control. You are skilled in operating high-performance Real-time/Sampling Oscilloscopes, BERTs (Bit Error Rate Testers), VNAs (Vector Network Analyzers), and Spectrum Analyzers, enabling you to conduct thorough evaluations of hardware performance.
You have a solid understanding of physical layer requirements for PCIe and Ethernet (IEEE 802.3), allowing you to correlate lab measurements with pre-silicon SI simulations using tools like HSPICE, ADS, or Sigrity. Your knowledge of SERDES internal sub-blocks equips you to debug and characterize silicon-level performance, including TX/RX/Clocking and CDR/Adaptation, NRZ and PAM4 signaling, and equalization techniques such as CTLE, DFE, and FFE.
As a Senior Serdes Electrical Validation Engineer at Google, you will lead and co-lead the post-silicon characterization and electrical validation of high-speed multi-gigabit serial interfaces, focusing on NRZ and PAM4 signaling. You will execute spec-compliant validation for industry standards such as PCIe Gen 5/6/7 and Ethernet (100G/400G/800G/1.6T), ensuring that the products meet the highest performance benchmarks.
Your role will involve evaluating Rx performance using Bit Error Rate (BER) testing, Jitter Tolerance (SJT), and interference tolerance measurements. You will define requirements for high-speed validation boards (EVBs) and review PCB layouts for signal integrity, collaborating closely with Digital Design and System Architecture teams to ensure that all specifications are met.
