Overview

Microsoft is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the engineering execution for their consumer marketing web ecosystem. You'll oversee both front-end and back-end development, ensuring high-quality web experiences. This role requires expertise in Java, JavaScript, ASP.NET, and Azure.

Who you are

You have extensive experience in software engineering, particularly in leading teams and managing complex projects. Your background includes a strong focus on both front-end and back-end development, allowing you to understand the full stack of web technologies. You are adept at setting technical direction and reference architecture for scalable, secure, and high-performing web experiences. Your leadership style fosters collaboration across various teams, including Product, Design, and Security, ensuring that all aspects of web development are aligned with business goals.

You possess deep knowledge of compliance and governance in web development, ensuring that all projects meet necessary standards and regulations. Your experience includes managing budgets and overseeing outsourced teams, demonstrating your ability to handle large-scale operations effectively. You are a strategic thinker who can drive site health and customer experience excellence through performance improvements and innovative solutions.

Desirable

Experience with cloud platforms, particularly Azure, is a plus. Familiarity with CI/CD practices and operational readiness will enhance your ability to lead engineering delivery effectively. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and can adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a focus on quality and performance.

What you'll do

In this role, you will own the end-to-end web engineering delivery for Microsoft’s consumer marketing web ecosystem. You will set clear milestones and quality gates to ensure that all projects are delivered on time and meet high standards. Your responsibilities will include defining the technical direction for web experiences, including frameworks, APIs, and integration patterns. You will lead compliance execution and governance efforts, partnering with various teams to ensure continuous readiness for audits and policy changes.

You will drive improvements in site health and customer experience by implementing performance enhancements and ensuring that all web platforms are secure, accessible, and scalable. Your role will involve managing a multi-million annual budget and leading a team of over 60 developers, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and excellence.
