Position Overview

Ulteig is seeking talented and motivated candidates for an Engineering Supervisor, within the Power- Substation department. This role will focus on leading a subset of the Power Substation design teams of engineers, designers, and technicians to foster on-the-job leadership development and allow for continued team growth while supporting our client’s projects. This individual will report directly to the Site Engineering Manager, interacting closely with other corporate business units in areas such as sales, marketing, account management, and project management. The Engineering Supervisor is a self-starting technical leader with expertise in leadership, communication, and resource management.

Key Responsibilities

Project Technical Lead - 70%

  • Manages and leads all engineering activities related to electrical substations during the proposal, design and construction stages of multiple ongoing projects, as assigned.

  • Provides project oversight, including managing engineering scope according to technical contracts, developing change orders, and maintaining project schedules.

  • Directs and coordinates activities of several disciplines and Project Management group on a project of significant scope or a combination of large and complex projects.

  • Maintains high levels of quality and responsiveness to meet internal and external client requirements in alignment with company expectations.

  • Oversees design activities of team members.

  • Responsible for reviewing project drawings, calculations & specifications, assumes responsible charge as needed.

Management Responsibilities – 20%

  • Provides strategic direction, leadership and technical services oversight for employees on achieving individual, team, department, and organizational performance goals.

  • Coaches, trains and develops technical engineering staff for growth and development opportunities.

  • Facilitate weekly team meetings (bi-weekly at a minimum) and actively manage team resource planning

  • Perform individual performance reviews, training and professional development for team members during regular 1:1s, quarterly and annual employee performance reviews.

  • Plans the workload for all direct reports and collaborates with other leaders on broader group project resource planning.

  • Actively supports and is engaged in attracting and hiring new talent.

Business Development Responsibilities – 10%

  • Participates and partners with members of the Sales team and engineers throughout the organization to promote revenue growth and expansion of services with existing and prospective clients.

  • Supports proposal efforts by developing, providing resources, and reviewing proposals by working with the Proposal Development Team, Project Management group, and other departments.

  • Manages, develops, and leverages existing client relationships by staying in regular contact with key clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent is required.

  • CFIA or equivalent registration is required or the ability to obtain licensure within 1 year is preferred.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration will be a plus.

  • A minimum of 6 years of engineering experience in the design and construction of Power projects with an emphasis on electrical substations is strongly preferred.

  • Good knowledge or understanding of electrical substations including high voltage equipment, Protection and Control systems, Physical Substation (refers to the physical infrastructure and equipment that make up an electrical substation, such as transformers, circuit breakers, and protection systems), Grounding, Lightning protection, general services, etc.

  • Must be analytical, and self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude.

  • Strong analytic and information management skills

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, and public and external agencies.

  • High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and timeliness.

  • Excellent presentation and verbal/written communication skills

  • Displays a high level of initiative and explores new opportunities while understanding the risk to the organization.

  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and additional software knowledge depending on specialty.

  • Must have authorization to work permanently in Costa Rica.
