Senior Software Engineer (Backend) - REMOTE (anywhere in the US)

Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, building production systems that scale effectively. You’ve owned services from design through deployment and have navigated complex distributed systems issues, ensuring reliability and performance.

Your expertise in Java and Spring is deep — you’ve shipped high-throughput APIs that handle significant traffic and have strong opinions on service architecture, dependency injection, and testing strategies. You understand the importance of writing clean, maintainable code and are familiar with best practices in software development.

You are comfortable working across the full stack, which allows you to collaborate effectively with frontend engineers and contribute to the overall architecture of the application. Your experience with REST APIs means you can design and implement services that are both efficient and user-friendly.

You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy mentoring junior engineers, sharing your knowledge, and helping them grow in their careers. You appreciate a people-first mindset and understand how it contributes to a positive workplace culture.

Desirable

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Knock, you will play a crucial role in developing the technology that powers Knock.com and the platforms supporting our customers, partners, and internal teams. You will design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs that are integral to delivering a seamless user experience.

You will collaborate closely with product managers and frontend engineers to define and implement features that enhance the platform's functionality. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to provide a world-class experience for homebuyers and sellers.

You will be responsible for ensuring the performance, scalability, and security of the backend systems. This includes conducting code reviews, writing unit tests, and participating in architectural discussions to improve the overall system design.
