Overview

Google is seeking a Data Center Technician III to manage and maintain hardware and server software in their data centers. You'll work with Linux, networking protocols, and systems administration. This role requires experience in troubleshooting and repairing technical equipment.

Job Description

Who you are

You have experience with the assembly of mechanical or electrical systems, or performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment. You are skilled in diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer hardware, and server hardware. Your knowledge of networking protocols is strong, and you are physically capable of lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 50lb (23kg) while exerting yourself over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting. You are flexible with your schedule and can work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, and holidays as required.

You have preferred qualifications that include experience with light coding or scripting, as well as systems administration. You are adept at troubleshooting operating systems, network equipment, and software, and you have experience working with and troubleshooting hardware or network-related issues using Linux-based tools. Collaboration is key for you, and you can partner with people and teams to overcome issues while managing engaging and changing priorities.

What you'll do

As a Data Center Technician III at Google, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware such as servers and their components, as well as server software like Google's Linux cluster. You will take on the configuration of complex components including networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. Your role will involve participating in or leading small projects to address issues, such as ensuring data is properly erased in accordance with Google security standards. You will also disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end-of-life through part replacement or maintenance, working collaboratively within one or more teams.

You will repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues, providing multiple solutions on your own. Your contributions will help maintain the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure that supports Google's powerful search technology, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently.
