Overview

SpaceX is hiring a Manufacturing Specialist (Optical Production) to manage the introduction of new configurations into production and improve manufacturing processes. You'll work with skills in AutoCAD, C, and C++ in Redmond, WA.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a background in manufacturing processes, particularly in optical production, and possess strong problem-solving skills. You are experienced in executing and managing new configuration introductions into production areas, ensuring that timelines are met without compromising quality. Your ability to read and interpret test logs and telemetry allows you to perform first-level triage of test failures effectively. You are proactive in assessing non-conforming hardware and driving resolutions and preventative actions to enhance production efficiency.

You have a knack for designing and implementing assembly fixtures and shop aides that improve manufacturing processes. Your understanding of design changes, process improvements, and safety measures contributes to better yield, performance, and cost-effectiveness. You are skilled in implementing standard practices, troubleshooting guides, and standard repair procedures that streamline operations. Additionally, you are capable of identifying, developing, and providing training to production technicians on new or updated processes, ensuring that the team is well-equipped to handle the demands of production.

Desirable

Experience in optical manufacturing or a related field is a plus, as is familiarity with equipment maintenance and calibration processes. You are adaptable and open to learning new technologies and methodologies that can enhance production capabilities.

What you'll do

In this role, you will execute and manage the introduction of new configurations into the production area, ensuring that all processes are aligned with SpaceX's high standards. You will perform process development and validation on new designs, working under aggressive timelines to meet production goals. Your responsibilities will include first-level triage of test failures, where you will read and interpret test logs and telemetry to identify issues quickly.

You will assess non-conforming hardware and drive resolution and preventative actions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that production remains on track. Your role will also involve designing and implementing assembly fixtures and shop aides that enhance the manufacturing process, making it more efficient and effective.

Identifying and implementing changes to design, process, safety, and floor layout will be crucial in improving yield, performance, and cost. You will implement standard practices, troubleshooting guides, and standard repair procedures that will serve as a foundation for the production team. Training production technicians on new or updated processes will be a key part of your responsibilities, ensuring that the team is knowledgeable and capable of executing their tasks effectively.
