You are currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program studying distributed systems, machine learning, or a related field. You possess a strong foundation in software engineering principles and are eager to apply your knowledge in a practical setting. Your academic background has equipped you with the skills to tackle complex problems independently while collaborating effectively with a team. You are motivated to drive projects forward and have a passion for improving systems that serve users better.
Experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems is a plus, as is familiarity with data infrastructure concepts. You are comfortable making data-driven decisions and have a keen interest in exploring innovative solutions to challenging problems. Your ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders will enhance your contributions to the team.
As a PhD Software Engineer Intern at Uber, you will be embedded in the Kafka team, working closely with experienced engineers and product managers. Your primary responsibility will be to drive ambitious projects from inception to completion, focusing on the internals of Kafka and building features that enhance the Kafka Ecosystem. You will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects that transport multi-trillion messages daily, contributing to one of the largest Kafka ecosystems in the world. You will be expected to make data-driven decisions and execute your tasks with exceptional attention to detail. Your independence and motivation will be key as you tackle previously unsolved problems and push projects forward.
