Job Description

Are you passionate about building secure, platforms that powers critical enterprise integrations? Do you thrive in environments where you own both build and operations for mission-critical systems?

We are looking for a System Development Engineer II to own the AWS-based middleware layer that enables secure, reliable integration between ServiceNow (SaaS) and Amazon’s internal systems. This middleware stack is the technical foundation that allows ServiceNow to interact with Internal Amazon services without compromising security boundaries.

As a key member of the team, you will design, implement, and operate AWS services at scale, ensuring the platform is highly available, cost-optimized, and compliant with Amazon InfoSec policies. You will partner closely with architects, application developers, and security engineers to deliver reusable integration patterns that accelerate ServiceNow adoption across the enterprise.

This role is hands-on, combining development, operations, and on-call responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. You will be expected to dive deep into complex technical problems, automate wherever possible, and lead incident resolution with long-term fixes.

Key job responsibilities
- AWS Middleware Ownership – Design, implement, and maintain AWS services including API Gateway, Lambda, Step Functions, SQS/SNS, Secrets Manager, and VPC Endpoints for ServiceNow integrations.
- Operational Excellence – Monitor system performance and security, lead on-call response for middleware incidents, and drive root-cause analysis with permanent fixes.
- Automation & Tooling – Build automation pipelines (IaC, CI/CD, monitoring, logging) to improve deployment speed, resilience, and cost efficiency.
- Integration Enablement – Deliver secure, reusable API endpoints that connect ServiceNow to multiple Amazon internal systems, partnering with App Dev engineers and architects.
- Security & Compliance – Implement and enforce authentication, authorization, and data handling controls in line with Amazon InfoSec standards.
- Continuous Improvement – Identify scaling bottlenecks, drive innovation in middleware patterns, and enable self-service integration capabilities for partner teams.

A day in the life
As a System Development Engineer II, you will balance building new integrations with operating and improving the AWS middleware that connects ServiceNow to Amazon’s internal systems. You will partner closely with ServiceNow application developers, architects, and security teams to deliver secure and reusable APIs, while also driving automation and operational excellence across the middleware stack. When issues arise, you will lead troubleshooting and incident response to ensure stability and compliance. Your work directly enables Amazon teams worldwide to access internal tools and services through ServiceNow securely and at scale.- 3+ years of professional experience in systems development, software engineering, or DevOps.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, SQS/SNS, Secrets Manager, VPC).
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools such as CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or Terraform.
- Operational experience with secure API development and integrations.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Java, Go, etc.).
- Experience supporting systems in production, including on-call participation and incident response.- 5+ years’ experience building and operating AWS middleware or integration services at scale.
- Strong knowledge of AWS networking (VPCs, endpoints, private link) and security (IAM, KMS).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, observability (CloudWatch, X-Ray, ELK/OpenSearch), and automation frameworks.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow platform and its integration patterns (REST/SOAP APIs, MID Server, workflows).
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum/Kanban environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
