Job Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

The Project Kuiper team is looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager with experience in mechanical systems and mechanisms development. The role will interface with cross-functional engineering and program/product management teams to develop flight hardware paired with software for integration into the Kuiper system. You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and given the size of this initiative, you’ll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams across Amazon. You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that’s higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems that haven’t been solved at scale before! Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment. Along the way, we guarantee that you’ll learn a ton, have fun and make a positive impact on millions of people.

Key job responsibilities

Drive engineering project execution, make technical trade-offs, track and report on status, and resolve blocking issues.
Collaborate with architecture, hardware, software, and manufacturing teams on ensuring cross-functional deliverables are identified and tracked.
Act as the point of contact for Kuiper satellite mechanical hardware teams and work with external teams to identify and mitigate programmatic risks in meeting shared goals
Communicate clearly and effectively to executive management on the plans, status, and critical issues. Escalate urgent issues appropriately and drive them to closure in a timely manner.
Assist with vendor management, and vendor deliveries.
Organize regular project and team meetings, focusing design teams on program milestones and unblock technical issues by pulling together the multi-functional technical expertise to resolve the issues
Participate in technical discussions, ask probing questions, and work with the team to pull together scoping, schedules, and solutions to issues
Drive postmortem learning and improvements over time
Demonstrate leadership and be adept at navigating through challenging situations, juggling various priorities and managing constraints
