Who you are

You are a first or second-year student at an accredited U.S. law school or a recent graduate looking to gain practical experience in a legal environment. You possess a strong understanding of legal principles and are eager to apply your knowledge in a real-world setting. Your academic background has equipped you with the skills to analyze complex legal issues and draft clear, concise documents. You are passionate about the arts and understand the importance of legal frameworks in supporting cultural institutions. You thrive in collaborative environments and are excited to work alongside experienced legal professionals. You are committed to inclusivity and understand the value of diverse perspectives in the legal field.

What you'll do

As a General Counsel Intern at SFMOMA, you will assist the legal team in negotiating, preparing, and reviewing complex contracts that support the museum's operations and programs. You will have the opportunity to draft legal memoranda and policies that guide the museum's activities. Your role will involve identifying and analyzing legal issues that may affect the museum, providing you with hands-on experience in legal research and writing. You will also support the team in advising on litigation matters, gaining insight into the legal processes that impact cultural institutions. This internship will allow you to engage with various departments within the museum, enhancing your understanding of how legal considerations intersect with the arts. You will work full-time for 35 hours a week, from June 15 to August 14, contributing to a vibrant cultural center.
