The foundation services we develop are critical to Alexa's mobile presence, enabling everything from device authentication to enabling new features. Our work directly impacts how customers interact with Alexa across iOS, Android, and other platforms.
Key job responsibilities
The ideal candidate will design and develop high-performance Java microservices that power critical Alexa mobile functionality, implementing scalable backend solutions using AWS services. You'll create and optimize RESTful APIs consumed by mobile applications while implementing comprehensive monitoring and alerting systems to ensure 99.99% availability.
This role requires collaborating cross-functionally with mobile client teams and other backend services to define technical specifications and drive architecture decisions. The successful candidate is clearly passionate about delivering experiences that delight customers and creating robust, scalable solutions with exceptional technical expertise in distributed systems. A commitment to teamwork, strong communication skills (with both business and technical partners), and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where learning new concepts quickly is essential.
A day in the life
As you design and code solutions to help our team drive efficiencies in software architecture, you’ll create metrics, implement automation and other improvements, and resolve the root cause of software defects.- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
