What you'll do

As an extern at Palmetto Animal Hospital, you will immerse yourself in the daily operations of a small animal practice. You will gather patient histories, perform physical examinations, and assist in developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans. Your role will include scrubbing in for surgeries and managing medical cases, providing you with a comprehensive view of veterinary practice.

You will have the opportunity to enhance your client communication skills, ensuring that you can effectively convey important information to pet owners. Throughout your externship, you will work closely with a mentor who will provide guidance, instruction, and evaluation based on your college program's learning objectives.

Your externship will typically last between two to eight weeks, allowing you to tailor your experience to fit your educational requirements. You will be expected to participate in all aspects of patient care, gaining valuable insights into the veterinary profession and preparing you for your future career.
