Senior Backend Engineer, Payment Platform (all genders)

Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have navigated complex distributed systems issues. You possess strong backend development skills in a microservices architecture, with proficiency in languages such as Go or Kotlin, and you understand the importance of scalability, reliability, and security in payment systems.

Your expertise includes working with state-of-the-art technologies like AWS Cloud, Kafka, and Kubernetes — you are comfortable applying DevOps practices and methodologies in your work. You thrive in collaborative environments, actively contributing as a solution-oriented member within autonomous, cross-functional agile teams, and you enjoy mentoring colleagues while sharing your knowledge of software solutions.

You are detail-oriented and take ownership of the end-to-end process, including architecture, design, development, deployment, and operations of data pipelines. You have a strong understanding of HelloFresh's core product and architecture, serving as an ambassador for software solutions within the team.

Desirable

Experience with Istio and other cutting-edge technologies is a plus, as is familiarity with agile methodologies and pair programming. You are eager to learn and adapt to new technologies, and you are committed to continuous improvement in your work.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead the enhancement of core backend services for the Payments Platform squad, ensuring that payment core services remain scalable, resilient, and secure. You will collaborate closely with engineers from other payment squads to ensure a seamless payment experience for both existing and new customers. Your responsibilities will include designing and building robust payment systems that power every transaction across the organization.

You will take ownership of the end-to-end process, applying your knowledge of architecture and design to develop and deploy data pipelines. You will actively participate in agile ceremonies and work closely with product owners to align on priorities and deliverables. Your contributions will directly impact the scalability and reliability of HelloFresh's financial infrastructure.

You will also be responsible for mentoring junior engineers and providing support to your colleagues, fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing within the team. You will engage in code reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of development practices, ensuring high-quality software delivery.
