Amazon seeks a Senior Regional Automation Engineer to lead automated systems excellence within our Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) team. This position requires a technical expert to enhance fulfillment center operations through automated equipment, including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print-apply systems, and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
Core Responsibilities
• Manage control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks
• Track and enhance Material Handling Equipment (MHE) performance across fulfillment centers
• Provide expert technical guidance to automation teams through remote and on-site support
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Start-up, AFT Software, ACES, and Safety teams to boost MHE effectiveness
• Conduct failure analysis and implement system upgrades
• Improve building system efficiency through technical solutions
• Complete thorough Fulfillment Center System Assessments
• Manage new technology implementations with vendors and operations teams
• Maintain network infrastructure and support team members
• Present clear technical updates to stakeholders
• Industrial control systems including PLCs and networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, Profinet, ASi)
• Develop PLC and SCADA programming solutions
• Direct large-scale automation projects
• Create and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
• Provide rotating 24/7/365 remote support
• Travel up to 80% when required
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field, OR 5+ years equivalent experience (or 5+ years of Amazon (blue badge/FTE) experience)
• Proven experience with electrical systems, robotics, and automated equipment
• Advanced knowledge of RSLogix5000 studio, FT View, and control software platforms
• Comprehensive understanding of robotic work cells and control systems
• Demonstrated expertise in HMI programming and network components
• Expert knowledge of motor controls and electrical systems (480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, 24VDC)
• Understanding of Warehouse Management Systems and messaging protocols
• Ability to read and modify mechanical/electrical drawings
• Direct experience with SCADA systems and performance metrics
• Exceptional ability to analyze and communicate policies and procedures effectively
• Proven experience in systems control design and programming
• Demonstrated expertise in systems integration and field service engineering
• Successful track record in delivering systems training and instruction
• Comprehensive understanding of conveyor and sortation systems
• Superior written, verbal, and customer service communication skills
• Established history of delivering effective remote technical support
• Direct experience with advanced automation control systems
• Applied knowledge of industrial robotics
• Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing principles, Theory of Constraints (TOC), and facility layout design.
• Direct experience conducting cost-benefit analysis, labor productivity studies (including time studies and standardized work), and safety/ergonomic/human factors evaluations.
• An MBA or additional Master's degree and/or Six Sigma Black Belt Certification adds value. Previous work in manufacturing or complex industrial settings preferred.
