Overview

SpaceX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for the Hardware Reliability team to ensure the reliability of mechanical and electrical hardware for the Starlink product. You'll collaborate across various disciplines and utilize data to drive hardware development. This role requires expertise in mechanical engineering and design tools.

Job Description

Who you are

You are a Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in hardware reliability, ideally with experience in the aerospace or telecommunications industries. You have a solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, and you are skilled in using design tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks to create and analyze hardware components. Your analytical skills allow you to interpret data effectively, helping to identify and mitigate potential reliability issues in hardware design. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to bring innovative solutions to life. You are detail-oriented and committed to ensuring that all hardware meets the highest standards of reliability and performance.

Desirable

Experience with satellite technology or broadband systems is a plus, as is familiarity with RF systems and testing methodologies. A background in project management or experience leading engineering projects would also be beneficial. You are adaptable and open to learning new technologies and methodologies that can enhance hardware reliability.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be part of the Hardware Reliability Team at SpaceX, focusing on the Starlink product. You will collaborate with engineers from various disciplines, including electrical, RF, and software, to ensure that all hardware components are designed for maximum reliability. Your responsibilities will include conducting reliability assessments, analyzing failure data, and implementing design improvements based on your findings. You will also participate in the testing and validation of hardware, ensuring that it meets performance specifications before full-scale production. Your work will directly impact the quality and reliability of the Starlink system, which aims to provide internet access to underserved communities worldwide.

You will engage in continuous improvement initiatives, utilizing data-driven approaches to enhance hardware design and manufacturing processes. You will be responsible for documenting your findings and presenting them to stakeholders, ensuring that all team members are aligned on reliability goals and strategies. As you grow in this role, you will have opportunities to mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of best practices within the team.
