As our next Senior Engineer for AI Product Innovation, based in Barcelona, you’ll be part of a small, fast-moving team at the frontier of our AI experimentation. You’ll turn emerging AI capabilities into real, testable product experiences — working with APIs from OpenAI, Anthropic, and others, and exploring new frameworks like ACP, MCP, and AP2. This is a role for engineers who love to prototype, experiment, and push boundaries — finding out what’s possible before anyone else does.

Forget long lists, here’s what you’ll actually spend your time on:

• Rapidly building and testing AI-powered features, from internal tools and proof-of-concepts to live marketplace experiments.
  

• Exploring and validating how AI can create real leverage, whether that’s improving consumer search, automating trade workflows, or reimagining how users interact with Checkatrade.
  

• Collaborating with product, data, and design teams to move fast, learn fast, and deliver insights that shape our next generation of products.
  

• Working hands-on with APIs and frameworks like OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, and emerging agentic standards to test, iterate, and refine ideas.

It’s not about ticking every box. It’s about turning up curious, ready to crack on. You’ll do well here if you bring:

• A maker’s mindset - you love to build, test, and tinker. You’ve probably played with GPTs, built side projects using LLMs, or hacked together small multi-agent systems just to see what’s possible.
  

• Strong software engineering fundamentals, ideally across TypeScript, Python, or modern backend frameworks.
  

• Curiosity about UX, user behaviour, and business impact - you care as much about the why as the how.
  

• A bias for action: you thrive in ambiguity, love creative experimentation, and aren’t afraid to fail fast to learn faster.
  

• A passion for applying AI responsibly - solving meaningful user problems, not just chasing hype.

Interviews will take place in Barcelona and you will be required to work in Barcelona two days per week.
