Overview

Google is seeking a Data Center Operations Manager to oversee the quality installation of server hardware and manage a team of Data Center Technicians. You'll work with Linux systems and networking infrastructure in Council Bluffs, IA.

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience, along with at least 5 years of experience in computing infrastructure, networking, operating systems, or hardware. Your background includes 2 years of experience managing technical teams, vendor or contract management, and delivery. You are flexible and able to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, and holidays as required.

Your experience in data center environments has equipped you with the skills to build and operate infrastructure, network, compute architecture, and perform Linux/Unix system administration. You have a proven track record of developing network architecture and executing initiatives in a global environment. Your leadership skills shine through in your ability to manage projects from initiation to completion while directing operations management initiatives.

You are committed to improving Environmental Health and Safety initiatives within your team. As a Hardware Operations Manager, you will manage a team of Data Center Technicians, overseeing the quality installation of server hardware and components. You thrive in environments where you can take charge of complicated installations and troubleshooting, ensuring that your team installs, configures, tests, troubleshoots, and maintains hardware and server software effectively.

You possess strong communication skills, allowing you to communicate priorities team-wide and facilitate management of operations to follow shift leads. You work collaboratively with your team to identify and resolve problems, creating solutions for the global computing and network architecture. Your role involves managing the implementation of projects within the team, ensuring that data center-related priorities align with company objectives.

Desirable

Experience in leading and managing projects in a global context is a plus, as is a background in environmental health and safety initiatives.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team of Data Center Technicians, ensuring that they are equipped to handle the installation and maintenance of server hardware and software. You will oversee the quality of installations and take charge of troubleshooting complex issues that arise in the data center environment. Your leadership will guide the team in executing their tasks efficiently and effectively, ensuring that all operations align with Google's high standards.

You will also be tasked with developing and improving network architecture, working closely with your team to implement best practices in system administration and operations management.
