Wikimedia is seeking a Site Reliability Engineering Manager to lead globally distributed teams in developing and supporting critical infrastructure. This role requires strong leadership skills and experience in managing engineering teams.
You have a proven track record in engineering management, particularly within Site Reliability Engineering, and possess the ability to lead and mentor teams effectively. Your experience includes managing globally distributed teams, ensuring their effectiveness and growth through guidance and support. You are skilled in setting individual performance goals and helping team members evolve their career paths. You have a strong background in project management, allowing you to triage incoming workloads and maintain focus on priorities while setting realistic expectations for your peers and team members.
You are adept at coordinating and communicating with various stakeholders, including product and engineering teams, to execute complex projects and contribute to the organizational strategy. Your ability to continuously develop the team's roadmap in alignment with other SRE and Product & Technology teams is a key strength. You are experienced in leading incident response, diagnosis, and follow-up processes, ensuring that your team is prepared for any challenges that arise.
You have experience in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new team members, which is essential for building a strong and effective team. Your background in SRE practices and methodologies will be beneficial in refining and executing processes that enhance team performance.
As the Site Reliability Engineering Manager at Wikimedia, you will be responsible for managing one to two globally distributed teams within the SRE organization. You will provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the team's effectiveness and growth. Your role will involve setting individual performance goals for team members and supporting them in achieving their career aspirations. You will also be responsible for triaging incoming workloads, maintaining focus on priorities, and setting realistic expectations for both peers and team members.
You will coordinate and communicate with other members of the Wikimedia product and engineering teams on relevant projects, executing complex initiatives and contributing to the organizational strategy. Continuously developing the roadmap of your team in alignment with other SRE and Product & Technology teams will be a key part of your responsibilities, as will drafting and executing the team’s annual and quarterly plans.
In this role, you will lead the definition, refinement, and execution of the processes through which your team manages and performs work. You will also lead incident response efforts, ensuring that your team is prepared to diagnose and follow up on any issues that arise. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
