Google is hiring a Data Center Technician I for their night shift team in The Dalles, OR. You'll be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and server software, requiring skills in Linux and networking protocols.
You have experience with the assembly of mechanical or electrical systems, or performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment. You are physically capable of lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 50lb and can exert yourself physically over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and lifting. You are adaptable and can work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, and holidays. You have at least 1 year of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols. You are a collaborative team player who can effectively communicate and execute instructions.
Experience in a similar role such as systems administration, network deployment engineer, or help desk technician is preferred. You have a strong ability to adapt to changes in a dynamic work environment and can collaborate with teams to overcome challenges.
As a Data Center Technician I, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware, including servers and their components, as well as server software like Google's Linux cluster. You will be responsible for performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on IT equipment. You will also take on the configuration of complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking security issues, ensuring compliance with Google security standards. You will work in a team setting to disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end-of-life and perform preventative maintenance based on identified issues with defined solutions and limited guidance.
