Senior~Staff, Backend Engineer (Core Member & Infra Platform)

Who you are

You have 3-20 years of professional software development experience, with a strong background in backend engineering. Your expertise in at least one programming language, preferably Java, has equipped you to design and implement robust systems. You have experience leading the design or architecture of new and existing systems, focusing on software design patterns, reliability, and scalability. As a mentor or tech lead, you have guided engineering teams, helping to define technical visions and build roadmaps for mission-critical projects. You are adept at collaborating with stakeholders and lead engineers to align on project goals and technical direction. Your experience with microservices architecture has prepared you to scale systems to handle web-scale demands, and you have a proven track record of diving deep into critical system issues to resolve them effectively. You are passionate about discovering innovative opportunities and have a history of collaborating with other engineering teams to build open and scalable platforms.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead the engineering team at Coupang, establishing the technical direction for the core data serving backend systems. You will have the opportunity to build a next-generation data serving platform that processes millions of requests from users worldwide. Your responsibilities will include defining the technical vision for the team and ensuring that the platform is scalable and reliable to support rapid business development and transformation. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive the implementation of new features and enhancements, ensuring that the platform meets the needs of users in Korea and global markets such as Taiwan and Japan. You will also be responsible for mentoring junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team. Your role will involve deep dives into system performance and reliability, ensuring that best practices are followed in design and implementation. You will collaborate with other engineering teams to identify and implement innovative solutions that enhance the platform's capabilities.
