Overview

Waymo is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to develop production-grade machine learning systems for autonomous driving technology. You'll work with Python and TensorFlow to build and operate large-scale ML and data systems. This role requires significant experience in machine learning and software engineering.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in machine learning and software engineering, with a strong background in developing production-grade systems. Your expertise in Python and machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow and Keras allows you to build robust models that can scale effectively. You understand the intricacies of simulation workflows and are passionate about applying machine learning to real-world challenges, particularly in the context of autonomous driving.

You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to bring machine learning solutions to production. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders is a key strength, enabling you to bridge the gap between research and practical application. You are driven by the mission to improve mobility and safety through innovative technology.

Desirable

Experience with large-scale data systems and cloud platforms is a plus, as is familiarity with automated algorithms for behavior assessment. You have a keen interest in the latest advancements in machine learning and are eager to apply them to enhance the capabilities of autonomous vehicles.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing machine learning algorithms that assess and understand the behavior of Waymo's autonomous vehicles. You will collaborate with the Driver Understanding and Evaluation team to create metrics that ensure the Waymo Driver meets safety and performance standards. Your work will involve building and operating large-scale machine learning systems that process vast amounts of data from both real-world driving and simulation.

You will engage in research and development activities to innovate new approaches to machine learning applications in autonomous driving. This includes designing experiments, analyzing results, and iterating on models to improve their accuracy and efficiency. You will also contribute to the development of tools that provide insights into the performance of the Waymo Driver, ensuring that the technology continues to evolve and improve.

What we offer

Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $204,000—$259,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan. You will be part of a mission-driven company that is at the forefront of autonomous driving technology, working alongside talented professionals who are dedicated to making a positive impact on mobility and safety. Our benefits program is generous, designed to support your well-being and professional growth as you contribute to our innovative projects.
