Overview

Google is seeking a Data Center Facilities Technician to operate and maintain critical electrical systems in their data centers. You'll work with electrical distribution systems and troubleshooting equipment. This role requires 2+ years of electrical experience in an industrial environment.

Job Description

Who you are

You have an Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related field. With at least 2 years of electrical experience, you are familiar with electrical testing equipment and electrical distribution in industrial or commercial environments. You are capable of participating in material handling tasks, including lifting and moving equipment, while adhering to safety guidelines and using personal protective equipment. You are flexible with your working hours and can manage shifts effectively.

You bring 5 years of experience in maintaining electrical distribution systems or working in a construction or technical environment. Your background includes experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants, giving you a solid understanding of the electrical systems used in these settings. You possess knowledge of feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, and PDU/PMM units. You are skilled in using meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting with standard hand tools and digital metering equipment.

What you'll do

As a Data Center Facilities Technician at Google, you will operate, monitor, and support the physical facilities systems and equipment within the data center. Your responsibilities will include managing the uptime and maintenance of UPS systems, generators, and electrical distribution systems. You will respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities and ensure that all systems are functioning optimally. You will also support the startup, commissioning, and integration of new electrical equipment and systems into the facilities infrastructure.

You will collaborate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrade work on the data center systems, ensuring that all work is completed to the highest standards. Your role will require you to assess the working order of systems and equipment, contributing to the overall efficiency and reliability of the data center operations. You will be part of a team that designs and operates sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and HVAC systems, playing a crucial role in maintaining the infrastructure that supports Google's data centers.
