Overview

Formlabs is hiring a Senior SLS Materials Scientist to lead the development of world-class SLS materials for 3D printing. You'll collaborate with product, hardware, and software teams while leveraging your expertise in materials science and polymer product development. This role requires hands-on experience in thermo-plastic engineering.

Who you are

You have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of materials science and polymer product development — your experience includes bringing a new material to market from ideation to production. You possess hands-on experience in thermo-plastic engineering, which allows you to effectively evaluate and improve material formulations. Your passion for testing and troubleshooting drives you to conduct rigorous experiments, often testing hundreds of times to achieve optimal results. You are comfortable harnessing data to inform your decisions and methodologies, ensuring that your work is both innovative and practical.

Desirable

Experience in a fast-paced environment where you have collaborated with cross-functional teams is a plus. Familiarity with SLS print systems and their operational parameters will enhance your ability to contribute effectively to the team. You are eager to push the boundaries of SLS material performance and are excited about the potential impact of your work on the future of fabrication.

What you'll do

In this role, you will build world-class SLS materials for 3D printing, guiding the process from initial lab explorations to validation and commercialization. You will lead research initiatives that push the boundaries of SLS material performance, turning discoveries into next-generation solutions. Collaboration is key, as you will partner with product, hardware, and software teams to iterate and improve material performance based on customer feedback. You will develop methodologies to evaluate material formulations in coordination with SLS print systems, balancing material chemistry, thermal dynamics, and printing parameters to achieve the best outcomes.
