Senior IP Counsel

Who you are

You have a degree in Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline. With at least 7 years of US patent prosecution experience, you have a proven track record of drafting and prosecuting patent applications. Your USPTO registration and membership in at least one State bar in the US demonstrate your legal expertise. You possess strong writing skills, allowing you to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely. Collaboration is key for you, as you effectively work with both engineers and outside counsel. You are willing to work across time zones to support a global team.

What you'll do

In this role, you will manage the preparation and prosecution of patent applications from ideation to filing. You will lead patent harvesting, brainstorming, and IP training sessions across different sites, ensuring that all team members are informed and engaged in the IP process. Your responsibilities will include reviewing outside counsel work products, such as draft patent applications and office action responses, to ensure quality and compliance with legal standards. You will also provide legal advice on managing Motional’s brand and trademarks portfolio, trade secrets protection, open-source software licenses, and data licensing, among other legal issues. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining and enhancing Motional’s IP portfolio, contributing to the company's innovation and competitive edge.
