We develop and optimize the software solutions that power the Make-On-Demand (MOD) manufacturing cells worldwide to reduce process waste, improve efficiency, lower cost of manufacturing, and improve the quality of books manufactured. The scope of our work is within the four walls of the manufacturing cell, from the time we get a manufacturing request till the book is manufactured.

You are invited to work on real world problems on a global scale, own their systems end-to-end, and influence the direction of our technology that impacts millions of customers around the world. You should be passionate about setting the standard for engineering excellence, building manufacturing software solutions, having strong software development, systems and process design skills as well as solid project management abilities. You should excel in tactical execution and responsibilities range from creating technical plans to driving software development.

You will have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to work cross-functionally. A keen sense of ownership is a must. You should also be comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment with fast delivery time, rapid iteration, and data-driven decision-making.

To succeed in this role, you will focus on:
- Develop and own product vision, strategy and roadmap;
- Own manufacturing feature development, delivery, operation and support activities;
- Execute projects within an Agile/Scrum environment;
- Hire and develop engineers and foster career growth and higher standards;
- Help develop long-term development and business technology strategies;

This role will sit in our new headquarters in Arlington Virginia, where Amazon has invested $2.5 billion dollars, occupied 4 million square feet of energy efficient office space, and created thousands of new full-time jobs. Our employees and the neighboring community will also benefit from the associated investments from the Commonwealth including infrastructure updates, public transportation improvements, and new access to Reagan National Airport.

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
