Google is seeking an Engineering Manager II for their Core Infrastructure team to lead software development projects and manage a team of engineers. You'll work with Kotlin and large-scale infrastructure technologies. This role requires 8+ years of experience in software development and technical leadership.

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, along with 8 years of experience in software development. Your expertise includes at least 5 years of experience with software development in Kotlin, and you have a strong background in developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks. You have spent 3 years in a technical leadership role and 2 years in a people management or team leadership role, demonstrating your ability to guide and mentor engineers effectively.

You thrive in complex, matrixed organizations and are comfortable navigating the challenges that come with them. Your technical expertise allows you to take on major projects while also managing a team of engineers. You understand the importance of optimizing code and ensuring that your team can do the same, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

What you'll do

As an Engineering Manager at Google, you will manage project goals, contribute to product strategy, and help develop your team. You will design, guide, and vet systems designs within the broader scope of the organization, writing product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems. Your role will involve reviewing code developed by other engineers and providing feedback to ensure adherence to best practices, including style guidelines, accuracy, testability, and efficiency.

You will lead your team in various areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, and data compression. Your leadership will be crucial in helping your team meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs, ensuring that they are well-equipped to tackle the challenges ahead.
