Apple is hiring a Senior Research Engineer to tackle the high-quality training data problem for advanced Foundation Models. You'll work with distributed systems and cloud technologies to design scalable data systems. This role requires a deep understanding of Machine Learning and engineering craftsmanship.
You have a strong background in engineering, particularly in the realm of Machine Learning and distributed systems — your experience allows you to understand the nuances of data-centric approaches to model training. With a minimum of 5 years in relevant fields, you have a proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale systems that effectively manage data quality and distribution.
Your expertise in cloud technologies is complemented by a deep intuition for Machine Learning principles — you understand how data quality impacts model performance and are passionate about leveraging this knowledge to drive advancements in Artificial Intelligence. You thrive in collaborative environments, working alongside Research Scientists to transform theoretical insights into practical engineering solutions.
You are committed to engineering craftsmanship and privacy, valuing rigorous scientific inquiry in your work — your approach is methodical, ensuring that every system you design is robust and scalable. You are adept at leading technical efforts, particularly in areas such as data acquisition, processing, and repository management for large model training.
Experience with active data curation techniques, including filtering, deduplication, and synthetic data generation, is highly desirable — you understand the importance of ensuring that models are trained on the highest-quality information available. Familiarity with statistical distributions and their implications for data quality will set you apart as a candidate.
In this role, you will be at the forefront of engineering solutions that address the challenges of high-quality training data for Foundation Models — your primary focus will be on architecting systems that facilitate effective data acquisition and processing. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Research Scientists, to ensure that the systems you design meet the rigorous demands of advanced model training.
You will lead initiatives aimed at enabling quality-driven data curation, which includes developing methodologies for filtering and deduplication of data — your work will directly influence the statistical distribution of data used in training, impacting the performance of our models. You will also explore innovative approaches to synthetic data generation and data mixing, ensuring that our models are exposed to diverse and high-quality datasets.
Your role will require you to stay updated on the latest advancements in Machine Learning and data engineering — you will be expected to contribute to the scientific community through publications and presentations, sharing insights gained from your work. You will also mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration within the team.
At Apple, you will be part of a team that values innovation and excellence — we offer a collaborative work environment where your contributions will have a significant impact on the future of Artificial Intelligence. You will have access to cutting-edge technologies and resources to support your work, along with opportunities for professional growth and development.
We believe in the importance of work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements to accommodate your needs — our culture promotes diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued.
