Protege is hiring a Product Manager for their Data Lab to translate cutting-edge AI research into scalable product capabilities. You'll collaborate with research scientists and ML engineers to enhance experimentation and product features. This role requires a background in ML engineering or data science.
You have a strong background in machine learning engineering, data science, or applied research, ideally with experience in product management. You understand frontier AI deeply and can apply that knowledge through product judgment rather than research authorship. You thrive in environments that require you to navigate ambiguity and own outcomes, and you are passionate about shaping the future of data and AI.
You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to work closely with cross-functional teams, including research scientists and applied ML engineers. You are adept at translating complex AI concepts into actionable product features and workflows that align with modern AI model training and deployment.
Your experience includes working with multimodal AI systems, such as text, audio, video, and healthcare data. You are familiar with the challenges of AI data management and are committed to improving reproducibility and iteration velocity in product development.
Experience in a fast-paced startup environment is a plus, as is familiarity with the latest trends in AI research and technology. You are comfortable with data-driven decision-making and have a track record of successfully launching AI-related products.
In this role, you will be at the center of Protege’s research and innovation engine, responsible for productizing cutting-edge AI research and experimentation. You will collaborate with research scientists and applied ML engineers to accelerate experimentation and improve the efficiency of product development processes. Your role will involve deciding which research outputs should be transformed into durable product features that meet market needs.
You will lead the development of tools and systems that support the Data Lab's operations, ensuring they are aligned with how modern AI models are trained, evaluated, and deployed. You will also be responsible for defining product roadmaps, managing stakeholder expectations, and conducting user research to inform product decisions.
Your work will directly impact the infrastructure powering frontier AI development, and you will partner with world-class researchers and product leaders to shape how experimental AI capabilities become scalable, real-world products. You will be expected to drive product vision and strategy, ensuring that Protege remains at the forefront of AI innovation.
