Software Engineer II, Frontend Platform

Who We Are:

Customer Technology Engineering is in the enviable position of being able to speak directly to our customers. Through cutting edge technology, we make shopping our millions of products feel simple and personal, whether customers are just browsing while on-the-go on our native app or finalizing purchase decisions on the desktop from the comfort of their home.

As Wayfair continues to see massive growth, Customer Technology Engineering is going through a major transition, empowering teams to build customer facing features that can be updated and deployed quickly and reliably. Frontend Platforms builds and maintains the tools and frameworks to deliver value to our customers more quickly, all in an environment where engineering teams have the autonomy to make the right decision for themselves and their product.

About The Team:

Wayfair is a leader in the e-commerce space for all things home. We live and breathe modern technologies. We’re looking for smart, innovative thinkers who can assist in the creation of scalable designs of our frontend tooling and architecture. We are as much concerned about thought leadership, community involvement, and the ever-changing landscape as we are with technical skills!

As a Software Engineer II, you’ll have the opportunity to grow your engineering expertise while learning from experienced peers as you contribute to the implementation of cutting-edge frontend technologies at scale. The Frontend Platform team is responsible for building out the architecture, tooling, and best practices that enable frontend engineers to build robust, scalable, and performant web experiences to the delight of our customers and millions of daily requests.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist in building and maintaining a scalable e-commerce platform that serves millions of requests per day via Kubernetes on Google Cloud.
  • Collaborate with the team to adopt Server Components, Server Side Suspense and React 19 functionality to help Wayfair deliver a world class, performant experience.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Next.js monorepo tooling that powers deployment, build processes, and local development for customer facing Wayfair developers.
  • Learn and contribute to Server Driven UI patterns to support platform-based architecture patterns.
  • Integrate and influence the adoption of AI technology to boost developer efficiency in a thoughtful, sustainable way.

What You’ll Need:

  • Experience with frontend web development (React, etc).
  • Interest in and some experience with frontend build tooling (Next.js, webpack, etc).
  • Familiarity with building and working with GraphQL APIs.
  • Interest in and some experience with build and deploy pipelines (e.g. Github, Buildkite, Argo, Kubernetes, Google Cloud)
  • Exposure to working at scale (lots of developers & web traffic, on call rotations) is a plus.
  • A growth mindset, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to contribute to complex projects.
  • Curiosity, a desire to learn and the ability to figure things out. A debugging mindset!
  • Team focused with a desire to grow together and mentor others.
