Overview

Dialpad is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Observability to enhance their metrics and log collection platform. You'll collaborate with Infrastructure engineers and develop tools to support project instrumentation. This role requires expertise in Java and Python, along with experience in cloud technologies.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in observability and monitoring systems. Your background includes working with metrics and log collection platforms, and you understand the importance of resource usage and requirements in a cloud environment. You are proficient in Java and Python, and you have experience with cloud technologies such as AWS. Your familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes allows you to build scalable and efficient systems.

You are a collaborative team player who enjoys working closely with other engineers to create tooling, libraries, and documentation that empower your peers. You stay updated on industry trends and best practices in observability, ensuring that your team is always aware of the latest developments. Your problem-solving skills are complemented by a scrappy, curious, and optimistic attitude, which drives you to continuously improve both your work and the systems you manage.

Desirable

Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana and Prometheus is a plus, as it will help you in your role to enhance observability across the platform. Familiarity with other programming languages and frameworks can also be beneficial, as it broadens your ability to contribute to various projects within the team.

What you'll do

As a Senior Software Engineer in Observability at Dialpad, you will take charge of our metrics and log collection platform, ensuring that it meets the needs of our engineering teams. You will collaborate with Infrastructure engineers to assess resource usage and requirements, helping to optimize our systems for performance and reliability. Your role will involve creating tooling and libraries that enable other engineers to instrument their projects effectively, fostering a culture of observability across the organization.

You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining documentation that guides your colleagues in using the observability tools you create. By keeping the team informed about trends in observability, you will help us stay ahead of the curve and continuously improve our platform. Your contributions will directly impact how we monitor and analyze our systems, leading to better performance and user experiences.
