You have 2+ years of experience developing production systems using Java, PHP, Golang, or similar object-oriented languages — you understand the intricacies of backend development and have a solid foundation in computer science principles, including data structures and software design practices. You hold a BS or MS in Computer Science or have equivalent industry experience, showcasing your commitment to the field. You take ownership of features and projects, ensuring they align with the long-term vision of the company.

You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working with senior engineers to lead well-scoped backend projects. Your experience has equipped you with the skills to tackle complex challenges, and you are eager to contribute to high-impact projects that help build the future of Squarespace's Domains and Email products.

Desirable

What you'll do

As a Backend Engineer at Squarespace, you will be part of the Acuity Engineering team, focusing on the architecture, performance, and scalability of our services. You will participate in the end-to-end development of multiple components, contributing to high-impact projects that enhance our product offerings. Your role will involve collaborating with senior and staff engineers, allowing you to learn from their expertise while also sharing your insights.

You will help scale our services to support the growing needs of our product, ensuring that our systems can handle increased demand without compromising performance. Your contributions will directly impact the user experience, as you work to remove administrative burdens for appointment-based businesses, allowing them to focus on what they love doing.

You will report to the Software Engineering Manager and be part of Squarespace's initial primary team in Portugal, playing a crucial role in establishing our presence in the market. This hybrid role will require you to work from our Aveiro office three days a week, fostering a collaborative atmosphere with your colleagues.
