Overview

Lyft is hiring an Android Tooling Engineer to enhance the developer experience by building foundational systems for mobile engineers. You'll work with Android tools and infrastructure to support efficient app development. This role requires a passion for crafting productivity tools and robust infrastructure.

Job Description

Who you are

You are an enthusiastic engineer with a strong background in Android development — you have experience crafting productivity tools and robust infrastructure that enhance the developer experience. You understand the importance of building stable, scalable, and efficient mobile applications, and you are eager to contribute to a team that values innovation and collaboration.

With a focus on developer experience, you are passionate about creating flexible tooling that enables rapid innovation — you thrive in environments where you can support hundreds of mobile engineers and help them scale their development practices. You have a keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards in code quality and architecture.

You are comfortable working with complex systems, including mobile build systems that support millions of lines of code and hundreds of modules — you appreciate the challenges that come with optimizing build times and ensuring smooth CI processes. Your ability to balance developing new tools with refining existing ones based on feedback makes you a valuable asset to any team.

Desirable

Experience with open-source contributions or familiarity with mobile build systems would be a plus — you are always looking for ways to improve your skills and contribute to the community. You are open to learning and adapting to new technologies and methodologies that can enhance your work and the work of your peers.

What you'll do

In this role, you will work within Lyft's Mobile Tooling team to create and maintain mobile build and release infrastructure — your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of mobile engineers across the organization. You will be responsible for building great tools that streamline development processes and improve overall productivity.

You will collaborate closely with other engineers to understand their needs and gather feedback on tooling and infrastructure — your insights will help shape the roadmap for future development. You will also play a crucial role in scaling development practices and iteration speed, ensuring that the tools you create are user-friendly and effective.

As part of your responsibilities, you will monitor and optimize build times, striving to keep local builds under 30 seconds and CI builds under 15 minutes — your technical expertise will be essential in achieving these goals. You will also engage in code reviews and contribute to the overall improvement of code quality within the team.

What we offer

At Lyft, we foster a workplace where every team member belongs and has the opportunity to thrive — you will be part of a culture that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe diverse teams build better products.

You will have the chance to work on impactful projects that support millions of users — your work will directly contribute to the success of Lyft's mobile applications. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional growth and development within the company.

Join us at Lyft and be part of a team that is dedicated to enhancing the developer experience and building tools that empower mobile engineers to create exceptional applications.
