Google is seeking a Data Center Facilities Technician, Mechanical to support the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems in data centers. You'll work with HVAC systems and mechanical equipment, requiring 5+ years of relevant experience.
You have a minimum of 5 years of Mechanical/HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial environment, demonstrating your ability to handle complex mechanical systems. Your background includes an Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field. You are familiar with the use of OSHA standard safety equipment and can participate in material handling tasks, including lifting and moving equipment. Your experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants has equipped you with the knowledge necessary to manage mechanical systems effectively.
You possess a strong understanding of mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including chillers, air handling units, pumps, and CRAC/CRAH units. Your ability to communicate effectively with contractors performing maintenance or upgrade work is a key asset. You are comfortable working non-standard hours and can adapt to various shifts, ensuring that the data center operates smoothly at all times.
Experience in the maintenance of mechanical/cooling distribution systems is preferred, as is familiarity with meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting techniques using standard hand tools and diagnostic equipment. Your proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues will contribute to the overall efficiency of the data center facilities.
In this role, you will operate, monitor, and support the physical facilities conditions of Google’s data centers. Your responsibilities will include managing the uptime and maintenance of water pumps and treatment systems, HVAC, and control and monitoring systems. You will respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally.
You will support the startup, commissioning, and integration of new mechanical equipment and systems into the facilities infrastructure. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining the heating and cooling of air and water, as well as overseeing power supply, generators, and UPS systems. You will conduct tours of the systems to assess their working order and ensure compliance with safety standards.
