Job Description

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We’re looking for a hands-on, technically mature profile with an engineering degree or extensive CNC experience to take full ownership of the machining flow for space-grade components. You’ll be responsible for CAM programming, setup, tuning, and continuous improvement, and contribute directly to future investments in machining equipment and tooling.

You will work on a variety of high-precision parts such as valve bodies, post-processed metal 3D-printed parts, and critical propulsion subassemblies, across a fleet of modern multi-brand 5-axis machining centers and CNC lathes.

This role offers a high-impact technical position with the potential for future growth and expanded responsibilities.

Fluency in English expected, as our work environment is international.

Key responsibilities:

  • Define and optimize machining strategies: sequencing, tooling, fixtures, in-process control

  • Program complex components in HyperMill (5-axis milling and CNC turning)

  • Validate parts on multi-brand CNC equipment, ensuring tolerances and surface finish

  • Manufacture gas and propellant valve components, precision assemblies, Inconel structures including set up origins and prepare the cutting tools.

  • Realize first level maintenance to keep the machine in good function

  • Analyze and improve toolpaths, reduce cycle times, stabilize machining quality

  • Interface with design, quality, and production teams for feedback, proposition of design and troubleshooting

  • Lead equipment investment efforts: specifications, supplier coordination, commissioning

What we'd love to see from you:

  • Engineering degree or highly experienced technician (5+ years) in CNC/CAM for complex parts

  • Expertise with HyperMill (or equivalent CAM tools) and tight-tolerance machining

  • Solid knowledge of 5-axis milling and/or precision turning

  • Experience with space/aerospace materials: Inconel, titanium, high-performance alloys

  • Autonomy, hands-on mindset, ability to structure and lead technical topics

  • Interest in shaping the growth of machining capabilities through process and equipment leadership

  • Fluency in English.

Why you should join us!

What makes us special here at The Exploration Company and why we think you will enjoy working here is:

  • We’re Agile - we make decisions fast whilst keeping our goals and systems in mind

  • We’re Open and Collaborative - we are transparent about risks and obstacles, so that we can cooperate to overcome them

  • We have a lot of Fun - we refuel our energy knowing we are democratising space. It’s a wonderful and rare opportunity, are YOU up for the challenge?

We'd love to hear from you if you wish to be a part of our journey. Please submit your CV now for immediate consideration and we will be in touch shortly.
