Systems Development Engineer, Google Distributed Cloud

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an IT-related field, or equivalent practical experience. With at least 3 years of experience in systems automation, you have a solid understanding of systems design and implementation. Your background includes working with technical infrastructure, including deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting. You are proficient in Kubernetes or a similar container orchestration platform, and you have experience with TCP/IP networking, diagnosing, and resolving network-related issues. You possess excellent investigative and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to build relationships and empathize with customers to understand their needs.

Desirable

You have experience working with vendors or customers and have served as a customer solution engineer. Your background includes experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) or IT production systems engineering. You are familiar with physical server, storage, and network devices, and you have scripting skills in languages such as Bash, Perl, Python, or Ruby to automate routine tasks. You are a proactive problem solver who enjoys tackling complex challenges.

What you'll do

As a Systems Development Engineer at Google, you will manage services and systems at scale, focusing on automating mundane tasks and reducing toil. You will develop tools and solutions that address classes of problems rather than just fixing bugs. Your role will emphasize observability, where you will instrument systems to gather data, turning that data into actionable knowledge. You will participate in customer, partner, and internal team deployments, which may require international travel. Additionally, you will be part of an on-call rotation to support escalations from client deployments and internal reference deployments, ensuring operational efficiency across Google systems and services.
