Sr Backend Engineer, LATAM - Core (100% Remote)

Who you are

You have a strong background in backend engineering, with experience in building production systems that scale effectively. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working closely with engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver exceptional results. Your natural drive to explore and understand complex codebases allows you to deliver quality outcomes quickly, while your product thinking ensures that you prioritize customer satisfaction in your work.

You are proficient in Scala and have experience with distributed system development. Your familiarity with GCP services enhances your ability to design and operate robust backend solutions. You are also open to learning new technologies and methodologies that can improve your team's performance and the product's quality.

You understand the importance of API design and full-stack solutions, and you are comfortable operating autonomously while maintaining strong alignment with your team. Your ability to communicate effectively and collaborate cross-functionally is key to your success in this role. You are motivated by the challenge of building a world-class travel portal and are eager to contribute to Hopper's mission.

Desirable

Experience with React and TypeScript is a plus, as it complements your backend skills and allows you to contribute to the frontend aspects of the project. You are also familiar with agile methodologies and understand the importance of asynchronous decision-making in a fast-paced environment.

What you'll do

In this role, you will design, build, and operate API and full-stack solutions that enhance the Hopper travel portal. You will collaborate closely with your fellow engineers, designers, and product managers to ensure that new features are delivered efficiently and meet high-quality standards. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include exploring engineering improvements for both the team and the product, as well as operating autonomously while maintaining alignment with your cross-functional team.

You will be expected to take ownership of your work and demonstrate a commitment to delivering results that exceed expectations. Your ability to navigate complex codebases and identify areas for improvement will be crucial in driving the success of the project. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall growth of the engineering team.
