Overview

Google is seeking a Software Engineering Manager II for their Android SDK team to provide technical leadership and manage a team of engineers. You'll work with Android development, developer tools, and APIs. This position requires 8+ years of experience in software development.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, along with 8 years of experience in software development. With at least 5 years of experience specifically in Android development, you are well-versed in developer tools, APIs, and SDKs. Your leadership experience spans 2 years in a people management or team leadership role, showcasing your ability to guide and mentor engineers effectively. A Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field is preferred, along with 6 years of experience in a technical leadership role overseeing projects. You have a strong background in full-stack development, including backend systems and web technologies, and experience with Machine Learning systems or data analysis. You thrive in a matrixed organization and are adept at navigating complex team dynamics.

What you'll do

As a Software Engineering Manager II at Google, you will lead a team of engineers in the development of the Android SDK, driving the long-term technical direction for the SDK Catalog. You will identify new opportunities to expand its value and utility while collaborating with Google's security infrastructure teams to incorporate security and privacy analysis into catalog data. Your role will involve optimizing your own code and ensuring that your team is equipped to optimize theirs as well. You will manage project goals, contribute to product strategy, and help develop your team, fostering an environment of growth and innovation. You will oversee major projects that span various areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and large-scale system design. Your technical expertise will be crucial in guiding your team through challenges and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality software solutions.
