Job Description

Woven by Toyota is enabling Toyota’s once-in-a-century transformation into a mobility company. Inspired by a legacy of innovating for the benefit of others, our mission is to challenge the current state of mobility through human-centric innovation — expanding what “mobility” means and how it serves society.

Our work centers on four pillars: AD/ADAS, our autonomous driving and advanced driver assist technologies; Arene, our software development platform for software-defined vehicles; Woven City, a test course for mobility; and Cloud & AI, the digital infrastructure powering our collaborative foundation. Business-critical functions empower these teams to execute, and together, we’re working toward one bold goal: a world with zero accidents and enhanced well-being for all.

Who are we looking for?

In this role, you will be responsible for the technical leadership of a distributed team of engineers to develop, mature, and release the software systems engineering artifacts for our next-generation driving stack. You will be responsible for the overall technical development and sign off of the software system requirements, software architecture, software FMEA, Functional Safety software technical requirements, traceability of those requirements, review and assessment of test methods (at all levels,) ensuring the highest quality software system, with continuously improving software and system performance. You will drive development through the team by establishing close working relationships and ensuring technical work meets a standard of excellence that you will define. This role is an individual contributor role, reporting to the Director of Product Delivery. You will lead the team through direct review as well as influence. You will play a significant role in the training and development of our engineering team, creating both formal and informal training opportunities to raise the bar for production quality systems within Woven by Toyota.

The Lead Engineer will also be a member of our Technical Guild, our foremost experts on Autonomous Driving and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. As a member of the guild, you will be responsible for aligning and collaborating on cross-functional technical direction to ensure proper tradeoffs are made in overall system design. You will ensure rapid-development artifacts have a path to production by ensuring development teams have the proper structure  (interfaces, boundary diagrams, etc.) to scale our system to additional vehicle lines and ODDs over time. You will work with experts in perception, planning, and machine learning to make appropriate technical tradeoffs and ensure the solution meets and timing of the business.
