Amazon is seeking a Data Center Chief Engineer to oversee the infrastructure that powers global cloud computing. You'll ensure the efficiency of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. This role requires expertise in AWS and facility operations.
You have extensive experience in data center operations, particularly in managing electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems — your expertise ensures that all equipment operates at peak efficiency. You are a technical resource who collaborates effectively with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians and third-party vendors, serving as a focal point for facility operations within the data center. Your background includes a strong understanding of preventative maintenance and emergency response protocols, allowing you to handle complex operational challenges with ease.
You thrive in environments that require a blend of technical knowledge and leadership skills — your ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams, including software, hardware, and network engineers, is crucial. You are detail-oriented and proactive, always looking for ways to improve operational efficiency and reliability. Your experience in cloud computing infrastructure, particularly with AWS, positions you as a key player in maintaining the heartbeat of Amazon Web Services.
Experience with large-scale data center operations or cloud infrastructure management is a plus. Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in facility management will enhance your ability to contribute to our team. A background in electrical or mechanical engineering can also be beneficial, as it complements the technical demands of the role.
As the Data Center Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that all systems within the data center are functioning optimally — this includes overseeing the maintenance and operation of critical infrastructure components. You will lead a team of Engineering Operations Technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. Your role will involve developing and implementing maintenance schedules, conducting regular inspections, and addressing any issues that arise promptly.
You will collaborate closely with other teams within AWS to ensure seamless operations across the data center — this includes working with supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to address any challenges that may impact service delivery. Your technical expertise will be invaluable in troubleshooting complex issues and implementing solutions that enhance operational performance.
In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will play a key role in fostering a culture of safety and compliance within the data center — ensuring that all operations adhere to industry regulations and standards. You will also be involved in strategic planning for future infrastructure needs, helping to shape the direction of AWS's global operations.
At Amazon, we provide a comprehensive benefits package that includes competitive compensation, equity options, and a full range of medical and financial benefits. You will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where innovation is encouraged, and your contributions will have a direct impact on our global operations. We value diversity and inclusion, and we encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement. Join us in shaping the future of cloud computing.
