Temporal Technologies is hiring a Staff Engineer to design and build distributed data systems for their Cloud Data Storage team. You'll work with technologies like Cassandra, Docker, and Kubernetes to enhance backend functionality. This role requires significant experience in backend engineering.
You have 5+ years of experience in backend engineering, particularly in designing and building distributed data systems. Your expertise includes working with cloud data storage solutions and you have a strong understanding of persistence APIs and storage abstractions. You are comfortable with various metadata stores, including Cassandra and etcd, and have experience with multi-level caching and tiered storage systems. You thrive in collaborative environments and are driven by a passion for improving developer experiences through open-source software. Your curiosity and willingness to challenge standard thinking make you a great fit for our team.
Experience with cloud vendors and their storage solutions is a plus. Familiarity with observability tools that enhance customer trust in state machines will be beneficial. You may also have experience in mentoring junior engineers or contributing to open-source projects, showcasing your commitment to community and collaboration.
As a Staff Engineer at Temporal, you will design and build significant portions of our backend functionality for highly scalable, multi-tenant services. You will own the custom persistence stack for Temporal Cloud, which includes a Write Ahead Log and various metadata stores. Your role will involve crafting APIs that facilitate the storage, retrieval, and lifecycle management of workflow data at planet scale. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that our systems are reliable and efficient, and you will be responsible for maintaining the observability of our services to ensure customer trust.
You will also engage in code reviews and contribute to architectural discussions, ensuring that best practices are followed throughout the development process. Your insights will help shape the future of our cloud data storage solutions, and you will have the opportunity to influence the technical direction of the team.
