Systems Development Engineers are expected to develop best practices, refine operational procedures and constantly innovate proactively. You will continuously identify areas of growth within the existing frameworks, tools and processes to develop further technical mechanisms to reduce waste and continuously improve.
The Alexa Excellence team is looking for a System Development Engineers to help build /support tools for Amazon Alexa. The team operates programs to increase the availability, productivity and performance of all Alexa customer experiences. We serve as a center of excellence by providing leadership, best practices, tools, research, audit reports, support and education to all Alexa teams. You will be responsible for driving availability and optimizations across the teams in Alexa. You will have significant influence on our overall strategy by helping define the system architecture, and spearhead the best practices that enable a quality product.
Our ideal candidate is autonomous, detail oriented, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills and has experience working at scale. Systems Development Engineers work hand-in-hand with service teams to invent new ways of operating Alexa’s Tools and Services.
Key job responsibilities
Interface with a diverse customer base to understand requirements, priorities, and processes.
Monitor and maintain systems performance and capacity planning using metrics.
Work on expansions of current applications to support new launches
Work on customer issues to identify problems and develop solutions to avoid recurrence by addressing root causes.
Create processes and systems that can be leveraged to help drive efficiencies and quality.
Work with a wide range of technologies and technical document writing.
Proven writing and technical communication skills are essential for interaction with senior management on status, risks and emergent issues with project, initiatives and support.

We are the central defense and operational excellence team for Alexa, dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of incident management. Our team plays a critical role in supporting the entire Alexa organization, providing unique insights and solutions that drive technological innovation.- 4+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby- Experience with distributed systems at scale
