Skills & Technologies

AutoCAD

Overview

SpaceX is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer specializing in Tool & Die Machining to develop and qualify equipment and manufacturing processes for plastic injection molds and die cast tools. You'll work in a collaborative environment with a focus on precision and innovation.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a background in manufacturing engineering with a focus on tool and die machining — your experience includes managing technical projects and developing manufacturing processes. You possess a strong understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM) principles and are skilled in analyzing piece parts and assemblies to optimize them for production. You bring an open mindset and are willing to challenge traditional methods, embracing emerging technologies to improve processes. Your logical and disciplined approach allows you to evaluate and select the best solutions for complex manufacturing challenges.

You are proficient in using AutoCAD for designing tooling and manufacturing processes — your technical skills enable you to create detailed plans and specifications that guide production. You have experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including design engineering and production, to ensure that all aspects of manufacturing are aligned and efficient. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are committed to delivering high-quality results.

Desirable

Experience with plastic injection molding and high-pressure die casting is a plus — familiarity with industry standards and best practices will help you excel in this role. A background in aerospace or related fields can enhance your understanding of the unique challenges faced in manufacturing for space technologies.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for developing machining capabilities in-house for the tool and die team — your focus will be on delivering high-quality precision piece parts required for internal tooling. You will analyze piece parts and assemblies for DFM to ensure that they are optimized for manufacturing and assembly, contributing to the overall efficiency of production processes. You will create collaborative business plans with design engineering and upstream production teams, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned on project goals and timelines.

You will manage the qualification of all equipment and tooling necessary for production — this includes overseeing the development of manufacturing process technologies and ensuring that they meet the rigorous standards set by SpaceX. Your role will involve continuous improvement initiatives, where you will identify areas for enhancement and implement solutions that drive efficiency and quality.

You will also participate in cross-functional meetings to discuss project progress and address any challenges that arise — your ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders will be crucial in ensuring that projects stay on track. You will be expected to document processes and maintain records that support compliance with industry regulations and company standards.

What we offer

At SpaceX, you will be part of a mission-driven team focused on developing technologies that enable human life on Mars — your work will directly contribute to the advancement of space exploration and satellite communications. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will work in a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and creativity, allowing you to make a meaningful impact in the aerospace industry.
