Datadog is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop AI-focused IDE experiences. You'll work with technologies like Java and Python, integrating LLMs into developer tools. This role requires at least 5 years of experience in backend engineering.
You are a backend engineer with at least 5 years of professional experience who values code simplicity and performance — you've shipped software that uses LLMs to production and understand the intricacies of integrating AI into developer tools. You have a strong foundation in programming languages such as Java and Python, and you are comfortable working with version control systems like Git. Your experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, allows you to effectively deploy and manage applications in a scalable environment.
You are excited about developer tools and have a keen interest in enhancing user experiences through innovative solutions — you thrive in collaborative environments where you can share ideas and learn from others. Your familiarity with Docker and containerization technologies enables you to streamline development workflows and improve deployment processes. You stay updated with the latest trends in machine learning and AI, particularly in the context of large language models (LLMs), and you are eager to apply this knowledge to real-world applications.
Experience with IDEs like VSCode or similar tools is a plus, as it allows you to better understand the needs of developers and how to create seamless integrations. Familiarity with Datadog's products and services will help you align your work with the company's mission to empower developers. You are a proactive problem solver who enjoys prototyping and iterating on ideas based on user feedback, ensuring that the solutions you build are both effective and user-friendly.
In this role, you will work on prompts, evaluations, and agent tools for working with code as part of the Datadog MCP server — your contributions will help productionize these systems and integrate them within our customers' IDEs. You will conceptualize and build innovative user interfaces within the Datadog Cursor and VSCode extension, collaborating closely with product teams to ensure that the tools you create enhance the developer experience. Your work will involve prototyping solutions, testing them in real-world scenarios, and iterating based on user feedback to deliver high-quality products.
You will follow the latest research on LLM prompt optimization, agents, and code editing, applying this knowledge to improve the functionality and performance of the tools you develop. Additionally, you will support other Datadog product teams in building and productionizing their developer-focused MCP toolings, such as collaborating with the Live Debugger team to create a production debugging experience that simplifies error reproduction for users.
At Datadog, we value a collaborative office culture that fosters creativity and strong relationships among team members. We operate as a hybrid workplace, allowing you to create a work-life harmony that best fits your needs. You will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of engineers who are passionate about building tools that empower developers. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe diverse teams build better products. Join us in shaping the future of developer tools and making a significant impact in the industry.
