Job Description

Join the team that powers Amazon’s programmatic advertising auctions, driving real-time decisions that impact billions of ad impressions, advertisers' success, and customer experience every day. We’re looking for a Software Engineer who thrives on solving complex technical challenges at scale and is excited to help shape the future of Amazon's high scale low latency customer-facing advertising systems.

As a Software Engineer on the Sponsored Display Auction team, you’ll work closely with applied scientists, economists, and product managers to design and deliver low-latency, high-throughput systems that power ad prediction, ranking, bidding, and allocation. You’ll help invent and operationalize new auction formats — building reliable, explainable, and performant systems that scale with Amazon’s massive advertising ecosystem.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of machine learning, game theory, economics, and high-performance engineering—and to make a direct impact on a multi-billion dollar business.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and build large-scale distributed systems that execute real-time auctions for self-service display advertising.

- Implement pricing and allocation logic that balances shopper value, advertiser ROI, and long-term ecosystem health.

- Collaborate with scientists to productionize models for ad ranking, bidding, and pricing.

- Optimize systems for ultra-low latency, high throughput, and fault tolerance, handling hundreds of thousands of ads across diverse supply types.

- Take technical ownership from architecture to launch, driving innovation in how we serve, measure, and improve auction outcomes.

A day in the life
* Be immersed in Sponsored Display's auction data: candidate ads, objectives, bids and outcomes
* Design, prototype and validate new auction mechanisms or parameterizations
* Take technical leadership over turning prototypes into shopper- and advertiser-facing software
* Stay abreast of the latest trends and opportunities in machine learning, economics, auction theory and measurement
* Be an advocate and expert for SD's auction to leaders and stakeholders inside and outside advertising

About the team
Sponsored Display is a rapidly growing advertising product that aims to bring Display-style advertising to self-serve advertisers of any size. We're a customer-focused product powered by deep, exciting technology. We bias towards disruptive innovation that affects the experiences of all our advertisers and shoppers worldwide. We are deeply flexible in technology and methods, prefer multi-displicplinary collaborations and broad viewpoints, and are obsessed over cutting edge research in customer-facing software and products.- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
- Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
- Experience in professional, non-internship software development- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
