Job Description

Amazon Global Runtimes Infrastructure for Developers (GRID) is looking for a Manager of software development to lead the development of Amazon's next generation Compute platforms used to implement and drive distributed processes and systems for various Amazon's business including Amazon retail websites, Kindle, Amazon instant video, Amazon subsidiaries and more.

As a leader you will be responsible for leading a group of software engineers. Your group will develop the technology behind the multi-tenant storage platforms and workflow management platform that powers thousands of mission-critical workflow applications across Amazon's businesses. Your group will innovate on behalf of Amazon businesses to redefine broader compute and orchestration use cases, while implementing Generative AI and Agentic AI solutions to modernize Amazon’s applications and address key business challenges. Your group will build knowledge foundation that distinguishes reliable AI from hallucinating AI, making Amazon's technical expertise accessible to all builders through structured, methodical systems, testing hypothesis, measurable outcomes, and foster continuous improvement.

As the ideal candidate you will be experienced in managing a multi-discipline, multi-site organization of software engineers, and technical program managers. You will have a proven track record of shipping complex software solutions through an agile methodology. You will have the ability to dive deep into the understanding of problems to help your team make the right technical decisions for the product and the business. Your will have proven track record in developing AI/ML-based products and nurturing your direct reports' careers. You will communicate effectively and navigate ambiguous situations while creating knowledge solutions that accelerate innovation and reduce duplication across Amazon's AI transformation journey.

Key job responsibilities
* Guide and mentor a diverse team of software engineers and technical program managers
* Foster innovation in multi-tenant storage and workflow management platforms
* Develop and implement AI/ML solutions to modernize Amazon's applications
* Create frameworks for evaluating and implementing reliable AI systems
* Build collaborative relationships across teams to drive technical excellence

About the team

- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product and program management teams
- Experience working directly within engineering teams- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary for this position ranges from $171,400/year up to $286,200/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
