Overview

SpaceX is seeking a Senior Wireless Firmware Engineer to develop novel wireless signal processing algorithms for satellite-based connectivity. You'll work with C, C++, and Embedded Linux in Redmond, WA.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in embedded systems and firmware development, particularly in wireless technologies. Your expertise includes designing and implementing physical layer algorithms for satellite-based communication systems, and you are comfortable working with both hardware and software components. You possess a strong understanding of wireless signal processing algorithms and have experience optimizing software for resource-constrained environments. You are adept at debugging complex systems and performance issues, and you thrive in collaborative environments where you can work closely with systems engineers and protocol firmware engineers.

You have a solid foundation in programming languages such as C and C++, and you are familiar with Embedded Linux environments. Your analytical skills allow you to develop models and run simulations to validate system performance, and you are experienced in documenting your work to ensure clarity and maintainability. You are passionate about contributing to innovative projects that push the boundaries of technology and are excited about the potential of global cellular connectivity from space.

Desirable

Experience with 4G/5G technologies, including LTE and NR, is a plus. Familiarity with modem performance analysis and validation techniques will set you apart. You are also encouraged to apply if you have experience in interdisciplinary collaboration, as this role requires working across various engineering domains.

What you'll do

In this role, you will design and implement physical layer (PHY) algorithms for satellite-based 4G/5G eNodeB/gNodeB systems. You will develop optimized signal processing algorithms that run efficiently on resource-constrained CPUs, ensuring high performance and reliability. Your responsibilities will include identifying and debugging complex performance issues across the wireless PHY and MAC layers, and you will participate in architecture and design discussions to shape the future of SpaceX's direct-to-cell program.

You will collaborate with wireless systems engineers and protocol firmware engineers to accelerate wireless PHY development, tackling interdisciplinary challenges that arise during the development process. Your work will directly contribute to the advancement of global cellular connectivity from space, making a significant impact on the future of communication technology.
