Job Description

Amazon is seeking an experienced Principal User Researcher to help drive impactful, actionable and scalable research insights for Amazon Business. Our mission on the UX team at Amazon Business is to redefine the procurement space with innovative experiences that help customers do their jobs smarter, better, and faster. Our research team sits within the UX organization alongside our partners in design, content and design systems. You’d be joining an established, international research team that supports marketing and product experiences, and employs both quantitative and qualitative research methods. In addition to colleagues in UX, we also work closely with stakeholders in Product to ensure that new products, features and enhancements are always rooted in genuine customer needs, and deliver the level of UX quality that is expected.

Key job responsibilities
As an ideal candidate, you have a deep understanding of user research methods and best practices, broad experience in quantitative and qualitative methods, and a willingness to learn new methods or adapt existing approaches to meet the needs of specific projects. You should be familiar with delivering research insights within a large enterprise, able to tailor your messages appropriately for various audiences, and have a track record of using research to influence design and product decisions. As a Principal Researcher, you will not directly manage staff, but will demonstrate leadership by guiding strategic, complex projects, collaborating with and mentoring other researchers, and always seeking to scale methods and insights to drive impact beyond a single team to all Amazon Business, or even to other groups within Amazon. Experience conducting research for large, complex B2B enterprise software is a plus. You should be able to work with minimal direction while delivering high-quality outputs. The projects you work on may represent early opportunity areas, so you should be comfortable with (initial) ambiguity, and bringing order and clarity to undefined problem spaces. We work in a fast-paced corporate environment, so you’ll need to be good at multi-tasking, juggling competing priorities, and organizing yourself.

A day in the life
We need a highly motivated, creative and passionate research leader to be a part of our team as we build the next generation of business shopping experiences on all devices and platforms – for millions of people around the world. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and conducting research using a range of methods, ideally using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. You will focus on answering complex questions and building deep understanding of our customers (and potential customers). Your research will uncover insights around their behaviors and attitudes, including how they make shopping decisions, what their needs and pain points are as they shop, and what it means to build inclusive experiences for all of our customers. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across UX and Product teams to help drive thinking around how to better meet customer needs. You’ll design research studies that incorporate multiple methods in order to shine a light on areas we don’t yet understand, and you’ll tell memorable stories and write compelling deliverables that paint a rich picture of who our customers are and what they care about.-10 years progressive experience leading UX Research programs
-Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods-Skilled communicator, able to engage effectively with stakeholders and research participants from different backgrounds
-Able to work with minimal direction while delivering high-quality outputs
-Comfortable with ambiguity, and and able to bring order and clarity to undefined problem spaces
